By Tarun Chachra An IT person by trait my goal is to always seek out performance. The N900 promised just that...what I got was not what I expected.Pros:Dual Band - Separate 2.4ghz and 5ghz networks.Guest Network2 USB Ports to attach storage, etc.QOS - Quality of Service features built in for multimedia streaming.Cons:Range/Speed are not up to spec of 802.11n (2.4ghz range was OK).Software needs major fixing - every change requires a 90second reboot.I have been a long time user of Apple's Airport Extreme which is in the same price range and offers dual band connectivity. I did my usual speed testing and my results were as expected; however my range was reduced in the 5ghz band and the 2.4ghz band got progressively worst as I moved farther away (naturally).I use MAC's at home and ran some tests with iStumbler (wireless test utility. I also checked my transmit rates on the MAC and compared them to my Airport Extreme. (Images have been uploaded). You will notice in one image that a router that is clear on the other side of my home was providing me a similar signal to the N900 which was about 6 feet away from me when testing. Naturally I tried multiple laptops/ipad/ipod to see if this was a hardware issue with my machines or the router itself...in all cases the range was not as good as I had hoped. Here is what I found:The range in 2.4ghz was OK/Good. The range in 5ghz was lower than what I have gotten with other dual band routers. The transmit speed in the 2.4ghz band was normal but the rate in the 5ghz band was half of what we should be seeing. The transmit rate in the 5ghz band was about 130 which is about half of what I get with any other dual band router including the Apple Airport Extreme (see attached images for comparison).Personally I feel that a router costing as much as this unit should at the very least come close to the promised specifications. It did not...thus my 3 star rating. I feel that Belkin has a great looking product with some excellent functionality - but it needs MAJOR improvement (maybe firmware will fix??). For now I would pass on this and look elsewhere for dual band connectivity.Again, please look at my images for some comparisons. 6 of 8 people found the following review helpful. Where to start? By Wix I have had numerous routers over the last 3 months. My old Netgear router started acting up just a bit, so I replaced it with a Belkin N750. The first I got arrived with a fixed yellow light, so I returned it for a replacement. That started dropping me at random, and I found it a royal pain to printshare. (though I admittedly did not flash the newest firmware - which was a mistake. After that, I was invited into Google's Screenwise Panel, which required using a Linksys E4300. That was nice, but I hated their program so I returned it. Next was the ASUS Black Diamond router, which I found just wonderful, yet a little messy on the software side. So last month, I was offered the Belkin N900 and that is what I am on, now.The N900 is essentially a clone of the N750, with a bit more speed and one extra wireless channel. It looks exactly the same and performs the same, unless you are transferring large files wirelessly - you will notice a bit increased speed. I have actually been fine with the N900, no more odd "request access to printer from computer" popups when I try to print. The test with this puppy is to see if it starts acting erratically, like the N750 did.Is it worth the price? In my experience, speed is worth the price only if it impacts a great deal of your day. I spend a lot of time on the computer, transferring files, wireless printing of LARGE photos, and using the Belkin as a DLNA server to my PS3. So, the extra little speed is nice. Is it worth another 100 bucks over its little brother? Well, if you have money to burn and haven't flinched at the price then your answer is

MacNeil I purchased one of these modems and Comcast would not allow me to use it with their digital voice service. I filed a complaint with the better business bureau, but again was told by the vice president of the digital voice division that it cannot be used even though they installed the same modem for me to use their service.Comcast is working with Motorola to come out with self install kits so you cannot use your own EMTA unit until that process is completed. 20 of 20 people found the following review helpful. Great product, Comcast compatible By Chris Bought this eMTA modem (for use with digital internet and phone) after Comcast told me I would be charge a $7/month rental fee automatically for using theirs. They said that this modem was not sold anywhere, but that if I found one that was compatible, it would work and the fee would be waved. When the installation technician (a contractor who is not an employee of Comcast) came to set up my phone and cable, they hassled him about the modem, but he was on my side and made it work.According to Comcast's website, there are only SOME geographic areas where they allow you to use your own eMTA modem, but they do not say what those areas are (I am in the Northwest - Seattle area). I suspect that if you have an installation technician who does not work for Comcast, you will have no problem getting this thing to work for you.Another note - the thing looks and feels big and bulky, so if something "sleek" is what you are looking for, this is not the modem for you. Integrated battery back up is great - if the power goes out, you will still have phone service. 12 of 12 people found the following review helpful. By Jakester I'm not a guru in this area so I needed 2 things out of this router, work out of the box and give me good range on my home network. The router scored perfectly on both counts. The setup couldn't be easier, although it's not idiot proof, and I'm the idiot that proved it. Setup is a 4 step process:1. Load the CD in your PC and start it.2. Plug in the router.3. Connect the router to the modem. (This is where I screwed up. The CD directions specify that if you're replacing an existing router, to disconnect from the modem before plugging the cable into the router. I failed to do this and the internet connection failed after I finished setup. Disconnecting everything and restarting the setup process, which takes only a few minutes, solved this problem.)4. Connect your peripherals to the router (PC, printer, etc., if they are not wireless). That's it. Setup finished showing me the router SSID and password. You can accept the defaults or enter them yourself. The default password was strong (a mix of alpha characters, numbers, and mixed cases on the alpha characters) so if you want to accept it be sure to record it in a safe place.I gave it 4 stars on signal strength because I had been using a Linksys wireless G router that was about 5 years old and performed steadfastly from day 1. Using a netbook and my PS3 I measured signal strength on both routers and the signal strength was slightly higher on the G router, with all other conditions identical. Not a significant drop but I was surprised there was any drop at all.Other than that however, this looks to be a very good wireless router for home use. It worked out of the box and has a much sleeker profile than my old G router. Highly recommended. 19 of 19 people found the following review helpful. Serves its purpose By May Weather This replaces an older model Linksys router (WRT54GS) and this router is easier to set up than the old one. It only took me 10 minutes total to install--maybe less. This has a nicer thinner and sleeker design and no more antennas sticking out and the blinking lights are at the back and no longer in the front. I chose this over the E1200 which is about $20 less because of the speedboost feature and expanded range but I really haven't really noticed anything extraordinary in speed and range. Anyway, I am very happy with this purchase and trust the Linksys name. 18 of 20 people found the following review helpful. Wow! By maxmasa31 I'm no networking wizard, but I know my way around setting up a wireless router. The Linksys/Cisco E1500 is the fourth (fifth?) I've ever set up and it was BY FAR the easiest.First off, I really appreciated that I could set up this router this wirelessly, as I performed the installation using my 11" Macbook Air, which doesn't have an ethernet port. Literally, from the moment I plugged this router into my cable modem and opened the installation wizard to the time my wife was back online playing games on her iPod, was five minutes. The program walked me through naming my network and setting up my password and it automatically set my network to use WPA2 security (which experts recommend over WPA or WEP). Since I used the same SSID and password, the instant the wizard told me I was done, everything just worked again! Of course, your mileage may vary, as I've always set my my routers to maximum security, which could just be the default with the E1500.While the router can be controlled through the aforementioned setup file, which is ideal for most users, there is also a browser-based control panel with access to the more detailed network capabilities, such as assigning static IPs and MAC addresses.Another feature I like is the "guest access" feature, which allows me to let friends or family who are visiting to use my internet, without access to the other computers on my network. It's easy to activate and you can set up a
